The SAE Tonmeister is a unique programme taking audio education to the next level. Graduates are equipped with the knowledge and highest academic qualification required for a successful career in the music and audio industries. The SAE Tonmeister programme is aimed at those who are concerned with acoustic design, theory and practice of sound recording, and wish to develop their musical knowledge and skills to a post graduate level. The programme will produce graduates who are well versed in the entertainment business, sound engineering, music production, music arrangement, management skills and acoustics design.
In addition, they will develop an appreciation of developmental and aesthetic aspects of creative media in recent years and the likely course of future developments. They will have self critical awareness of their professional capabilities and appreciate the need for continual personal and professional development.

SAE Tonmeister (a qualification at masters level)
Degree Entry Requirements

- minimum age 18; and
- completion of a Bachelor (Hons) degree; and
- some music theory knowledge and proficiency in at least one instrument; or
- mature age students with a minimum of 8 years industry experience and a proven track record. Please send CD or DVD your work and include complete CV.
Duration
12 months full time
Assessment method and award
Practical
- will involve progressive assessment and the submission of studio logs; and
- students undertake a substantial recording project within the guidelines set by the Institute
- students undertake a major music arrangement project
Theoretical
- all Tonmeister students must undertake one specialist written research projects and one complete musical project
pass and complete all individual degree modules and complete a final examination
Award
- In order to qualify for the SAE-Tonmeister, candidates need to have successfully completed a Bachelor (Hons) degree and passed the final examination with a score of 80% or more.
- award is the 'Tonmeister' Masters Level
Direct entry
Graduates who have successfully completed the SAE degree from other SAE Institutes can continue with the masters degree at SAE Oxford. Graduates with similar qualifications from other Institutions can apply for advanced standing in the Tonmeister programme.
