FM-203 - Industry Perspectives & Issues

This module surveys the structure and operations of the film industry and considers the policies and attitudes of the industry as they relate to the world market. It establishes some basic methodologies, skills and attitudes which are essential to successful research in the field, and which enhance the ability to identify, analyse and contribute intelligently to issues currently influencing the industry and the wider community.

FM-204 - Cultural Perspectives

This module aims to establish a sense of aesthetic perspective, to cultivate a sensitivity to cultural nuances, norms, and imperatives over past ages, and to stimulate an appreciation of the ways various visual media have been used and integrated in the past to 'capture' images of human experience. In considering the roles of Producers, Directors and Cinematographers, it examines the work and practice of a selection of successful professionals who have made major contributions as producers in their specialised fields.

FM-301 - Business and Legal Studies

In addition to other components, this module focuses on basic management skills with regard to administration, finance, personnel, networking and forward production planning. Also dealt with are issues regarding promotion, publicity and marketing and students are given a thorough grounding in the legal aspects of the film industry.

FM-302 - Advanced Industry Applications

This module is designed to introduce students to high quality visual FX and advanced production techniques. In addition, it addresses the proposition that digital film producers will engage in teaching others at some stage during their careers. Finally, this module allows students to gain supervised professional experience in public or commercial organisations, thus gaining an understanding of how their theoretical skills and knowledge can be applied in professional settings, and how workplace realities can influence the nature and effectiveness of activities.

FM-303 - Specialised Research Project

This section of the programme allows students to undertake an approved research project. It is, in effect, a double module worth 60 credit points, and is designed to show a student's ability to initiate, implement and evaluate a substantial creative/technical project. The project will be supervised by a member of staff approved by the Link Directors.

FM-304 - Advanced Post Production

The art of editing, achieving what the director is looking for, colour grading, using effects, sound mixing for film, foley recording, various edit software advantages, following a story board. All subjects are instructed at an advance level.
